Silk - The Benefits

We were rather late to the silk party. Friends and family were raving about their silk pillowcases but we didn't believe how simply sleeping on a silk pillowcase, or using silk in our hair, could make such a difference. But oh how wrong we were! Having used exclusively silk pillowcases, eye masks and hair scrunchies for the past 9 months, we can honestly say that we have seen a huge difference in both our skin and hair. Becoming passionate about the change in our skin and hair, we then spent the next 9 months searching for, and sampling, hundreds of different silks to find the perfect one. Our silk is 6A, 22 momme, pure mulberry silk and it is also OEKO-TEX certified which means that is free of any harmful substances, toxins and irritants.

Can silk pillowcases & eye masks prevent wrinkles?

Yes they can! Sleeping on a smooth surface with very little friction, means less pulling on the skin so you wont be waking up with as many creases in your skin as a result. The super-smoothness of our 22 momme pure mulberry silk, also means that our silk is less likely to absorb moisture from your skin and also the products that you apply to your skin. Leaving your skin much more hydrated with better product absorption than traditional cotton pillowcases.

Can silk keep you cool?

Yes it absolutely can. Silk fibres are inherently temperature-regulating. Silk wicks moisture away to keep you dry and cool.

Can silk pillowcases & scrunchies help with frizzy hair?

Yes! As someone with naturally frizzy, coarse hair, our founder Becks, can absolutely vouch for this! The super-smoothness of our 22 momme pure mulberry silk means that your hair simply glides over our pillowcases without any friction. Say goodbye to bed-head and frizz and hello to much smoother morning hair.

What does 6A, 22 momme, mulberry silk mean? Isn't all silk the same silk?

In order to develop the best possible range of silk products for our skin and hair, we have spent so much time over the last 9 months understanding silk and how silk is graded. We are proud to have produced a range of silk products using the finest silk available. Products that we have thoroughly tried and tested ourselves and we hope you love them as much as we do.

All silk is graded on a scale of A, B & C, A being the finest and C being the lowest. Grade A silk is the highest quality silk and is very pure. Silk grades are further differentiated by number. Grade A silk comes in A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A, with 6A being the highest and finest quality silk you can get. Put simply, Grade 6A silk is the finest quality available and this is why we chose it.

Momme is a Japanese word and used as a unit of weight measurement for silk, much like thread-count. The higher the momme, the denser the silk. Silk generally ranges from 11 - 25 momme. 11 momme is considered low in quality and 25 momme too heavy for bedding. That is why 22 momme is the perfect balance.

Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk available for purchase. The unique thing about Mulberry silk is how it is produced. Mulberry silk has its history in China, where local farmers grow mulberry trees and harvest the leaves for silkworms to feed on. The resulting cocoons are spun into raw silk fibres. Because the mulberry silkworms are fed only muberry leaves, the resulting silk is some of the finest available in the world. It is pure white in colour and more refined than any other type of silk.
